Liturgical Seasons

The Season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18. It will run for seven weeks to the night before Easter. Lent is a time of personal reflection, repentance, and meditation on the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross. His death atones for our sins. He chose to die in our place so that we might receive his righteousness. Jesus was whipped 39 times, then nailed to a cross, on which he hung for over 6 hours before he died. He was buried in a borrowed tomb. The liturgical color for Lent is purple. Lent is 40 days (matching Jesus' temptation in the wilderness) but the count skips over Sundays.
